16-coach Science Express - Biodiversity Special train reaches Nagpur

The 16-coach Science Express - Biodiversity Special (SEBS) train, featuring an exhibition on biodiversity and climate change arrived here.
 
After being on public display here for three days, the exhibition on wheels will move to Secunderabad from October 9 to 19 during the eleventh Conference of Parties (COP 11) to the Convention on Biodiversity (CBD) in Hyderabad, an official release here said.

Dignitaries and delegates from about 180 countries and various organisations participating in the COP 11, to be held in Hyderabad from October 8-19, are expected to visit the SEBS.

The exhibition is a collaborative initiative of Department of Science & Technology (DST) and Ministry of Environment & Forests (MoEF) of the central government.

Since its launch in October 2007, the Science Express exhibition train has covered over 68,000 kms across the country. With over 65 lakh visitors at its 230 halts over 830 exhibition days till date, it is now the largest, longest and most visited mobile science exhibition in India, the release said.

SEBS was inaugurated on 5 June 2012, World Environment Day, at Safdarjung in New Delhi. The current decade (2011-2020) has been declared as the United Nations Decade on Biodiversity.

Of the 16 coaches of SEBS, eight supported by MoEF are solely dedicated to showcasing the myriad biodiversity spread across the bio-geographical zones of India. It also covers various other facets like marine, coastal, forest, microbial, agro biodiversity and their linkage with livelihoods, besides challenges of conservation.
   
Maharashtra Social Justice and Guardian Minister of Nagpur Shivajirao Moghe, Divisional Railway Manager, Nagpur Division of Central Railway, Brijesh Dixit and city mayor Anil Sole were present at the inauguration of train at the Nagpur railway station.
