Chennai: Caterpillar, a global construction and engineering equipment giant has agreed to provide Anna University about Rs.60 lakh over the next three years to fund student scholarships, curriculum development and faculty training programmes.

The President of Caterpillar India, Kevin R. Thieneman, signed a Strategic University Partnership Agreement with the Vice-Chancellor P. Mannar Jawahar on wednesday.

Every year, $20,000 will be used to sponsor 40 student scholarships — half for students showing leadership potential, and the rest for underprivileged students. While $15,000 will go toward planning and updating the university curriculum, $5,000 will be spent on faculty development.

The company is also interested in collaborative research with the university, especially in the area of road construction equipment.
