Government servants retire from service at the age of 62 but scientists can continue to work even after 70 years and get state funds for their research.

The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) announced a new fellowship 'Science@70 Award' for scientists pursuing research and publishing papers even after turning 70.

The new scheme was announced by CSIR Director General Samir K Brahmachari at a function to celebrate the 70th foundation day of the Council.

Under the fellowship, a scientist can get an annual grant of Rs 20 lakh for a five-year period.

However, a scientist willing to avail of the fellowship has to be a Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Awardee and should not be receiving grant from any other source, Brahmachari said.
