AIIMS Patna commences its MBBS Session

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences here formally began classes for 50 MBBS students at its spacious campus in Phulwarisharif locality in the state capital.
 
State Health Minister Ashwani Chaube and director of AIIMS (Patna), Girish Kumar Singh presided over the inaugural function at its campus here.
 
Fifty students comprising 37 boys and 13 girls began their course.
 
Four subjects including anatomy, physiology, biochemistry and community medicine will be taught to the MBBS students, the director said.
 
Nineteeen teachers and four senior resident doctors have been recruited to impart education to the students, he added.
 
Speaking on the occasion, Chaube said that beginning of academic activities at the AIIMS Patna was like a dream fulfilled for which he thanked the Patna High Court, media, the central and state governments for their contributions in completion of the first stage of the project which was conceived a decade ago.
 
He said that the AIIMS Patna has decided to cater to elementary health problems of the local people for which a tele-education programm called 'Sankatmochan Nagrik' will be be started.
 
A group of volunteers under aegis of a body 'Chattisas' will work at panchayat level to facilitate communication between the institute and local people and also provide consultation and services to the patients.
 
These programmes for the local people will become functional once the OPD service begins at the AIIMS Patna, Singh said.
 
The trauma centre and emergency centre will become functional by the year end, Singh added.
 
The premier health and medical infrastructure will be spread over 134 acre comprising residential campus on 34 acre and the main campus on 100 acres.
