AIIMS Jodhpur commences its education session

The country's prestigious medical institution AIIMS announced the commencement of its maiden session here from Sept 17.
 
This is the first among the 6 AIIMS, announced by the NDA government all across the country in 2004 besides New Delhi, to have started the session with the induction of 50 students, 30 of which are from Rajasthan.
 
Addressing the inaugural session of the AIIMS Jodhpur, its founder Director and noted Onco-surgeon Sanjeev Mishra described the institute as a temple of knowledge and committed to set highest standards of teaching, research and treatment.
 
He called upon the students to commit themselves to spend 5 years of the course with all seriousness and set standards as the founding batch.
 
"There is no short cut to success and there is no alternative to hardwork," he also said.
 
Referring to the academic atmosphere of the institute, Mishra said there will be zero tolerance to any sort of indiscipline in the institute and after induction of the students, there will not be any discrimination on any basis.
 
Joint Secretary (Ministry of Health and Family Welfare), Rakesh Kumar, said the construction of the building was started in 2006 and now the academic block has been completed, leading to the session.
 
"From next September, we will start the hospital, which will have 950 beds including trauma unit," he said, adding that the institute will currently have 24 faculties, which will be increased to 91 by October.
 
"We are making sure that we bring the best possible faculties here in order to make a top rated institute," Kumar added.
 
The six new AIIMS had been proposed at Jodhpur (Rajasthan), Bhubaneshwar (Orissa), Raipur (Chhattisgarh), Bhopal (MP), Rishikesh (Uttarakhand) and Patna (Bihar) with a view to relieve pressure on AIIMS at New Delhi.
 
The inaugural session was also attended by the former Director of AIIMS (New Delhi) and Padma Shree recipient S K Kakkar and principal of S N Medical College (Jodhpur) Arvind Mathur.
