Lord Paul points out the University of Wolverhamptons rare distinction at the Graduation Dinner

The University of Wolverhampton has the rare distinction of having among its eminent honorary alumni the current President of India, a former President of India and a former UK premier, according to its Chancellor Lord Swraj Paul.

Lord Paul speaking at the Graduation Dinner of the university here last night, said, "The University has the rare distinction of having among its eminent honorary alumni the current President of India, Pranab Mukherjee, a former President of India, Dr A P J Abdul Kalam and a former UK Premier, Gordon Brown."

Lord Paul, an industrialist and educationist who is also Chancellor of the Westminster University, said: "improving the overall student experience remains a key part of our mission. I am delighted that the Ambika Paul Students' Union (at the Wolverhampton University) has undergone a final redevelopment to provide even better facilities at our city campus."

Noting that it was another successful year for the University of Wolverhampton, Lord Paul said the varsity has opened a new branch campus in Mauritius and more than 100 students have now enrolled and started their studies there.

"We continue to be committed to excellence in learning and teaching and once again one of our academic staff, Dr Brendan Bartram, has been recognised with a National Teaching Fellowship." he said.

He said the varsity's "strategic plan commits the University to continue to grow, and to provide an even better student experience focusing on developing graduates with the skills necessary to be part of tomorrow's workforce. We will be the Opportunity University, close to business and part of our community."

He also had a word of praise for the Vice-Chancellor of the University Geoff Layer under whose leadership the strategic plan was worked out.
