National Commission for Scheduled Caste today claimed even top educational institutions are not free from discrimination against SC students and said it will issue instructions to IITs, IIMs, AIIMS and central varsities to look into such cases.
"There are complaints against AIIMS that students belonging to SC community are facing discrimination. We have decided to issue instructions to all educational institutions like IIMs, IITs and other central universities regarding this," NCSC chairperson P L Punia told reporters here.
He was addressing a press conference on the finding of a committee with regard to caste based discrimination in Vardhaman Mahavir Medical College and Safdarjung Hospital here.
Headed by professor Bhalchandra Mungekar, the committee has given its report alleging discrimination against SC students in Vardhaman Mahavir medical college.
"Several students belonging to SC community were repeatedly failed in their subjects. During the course of our investigation, we have come to a conclusion that there was a feeling of deep routed anguish and hatred towards the SC students. We have also given our recommendation for necessary action," Mungekar told reporters.
Observing that the students belonging to SC community are facing such discriminations in other educational institutions as well, Punia said, "We have requested Prof Bhaldhandra to look into similar cases in top medical institutions such as IITs, IIMs, AIIMS and other central universities, like BHU."
The Committee in its report has named the faculty member and officials of Vardhaman Mahavir Medical College behind discrimination against SC students and has asked it to take appropriate actions.
It has also recommended appointing a liaison officer in these places to ensure proper treatment to SC students.
