Karunya focuses on healthcare

Coimbatore: Karunya University envisages solving present days social problems.

It will design its courses in such a way that students are able to solve the problems of society using technology, the universitys Chancellor Paul Dhinakaran said.

Talking to presspersons, he said courses based on three crucial areas of food, water and health care would be introduced. 'We have already initiated programmes in the areas of water and food. Now we are looking at health care and how we can use the technology available with us to extend it for the purpose of health'.

25 experts from various areas of health care had discussions with the university representatives on collaborative efforts in courses, training and extension activities.

Geriatrics, palliative care, taking care of those with disabilities, training on setting up hospices and equipping personnel to work in hospices would be focussed.

The university plans to take up new drug research and develop a therapy to provide immunity from diseases spread through water, food and environment.

'Bio-medical instrumentation division would be strengthened to facilitate students develop gadgets for people who cannot handle themselves.'Mr. Dhinakaran said.

To implementation all these, a speciality hospital would be required.

 'We hope to come up with a speciality hospital on the campus,' he added.
