Maharashtra governor wants teachers to play key role in RTE implementation

The Right to Education Act (RTE) has the capacity to usher in wide-ranging changes and teachers could play an important role in successful implementation of the landmark legislation, Maharashtra Governor K Sankaranarayanan said.
 
The Act can bring efficiency in the field of education and introduce drastic changes among people, especially those from the weaker sections of the society, he said.
 
The Governor noted that teachers can play an important role in implementation of RTE, which provides for free and compulsory education to all children of the age of 6 to 14.
 
Sankaranarayanan was speaking at a function organised to distribute the State Government's `Ideal Teachers Awards' at Kalidas Kala Mandir on the occasion of Teacher's Day.
 
Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan presided over the function, which was attended by PWD Minister Chhagan Bhujbal and School Education Minister Rajendra Darda, among others.
 
Speaking on the occasion, Chavan suggested giving a computer or a laptop each to the award winning teachers to boost computer literacy.
 
A total of 104 school teachers from all over the state were selected for the awards. Eight women teachers were presented Savitribai Phule Adarsh Shikshak Puraskar.
