The Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) Lt Gen Zameeruddin Shah said the university has decided to construct an "exclusive" new hostel for foreign students.
Shah, during a meeting with a group of parliamentarians from Thailand who are the members of Thailand-India Friendship Group, said that the decision has been taken in the wake of ongoing policy to make AMU attractive to foreign students by upgrading its facilities.
Krisch Atitkaew, the president of the group, who also happens to be an alumnus of the university, said that AMU had a very special role in promoting Indo-Thailand friendship.
He said that a very large number of students of Thailand had obtained their higher education from the university in the past and he looked forward to the restoration of social and educational ties between Thailand and Indian universities, especially the AMU.
