The global economic slowdown seems to be a thing of the past for IITians.
This year 50 multinational companies have already agreed to take part in campus placement at Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IITM) compared to 40 by the end of August 2011.
The institute’s placement office has sent letters to more than 850 companies this year compared to 650 last year, said B. Nagarajan, deputy registrar (training and placement), IITM. More than 220 companies had taken part in campus placement last year.
“We have received confirmation from more than 50 companies as on date and we expect more companies to confirm by the end of October. Last year by this time we had received confirmations from about 40 companies,” said Nagarajan.
The deputy registrar pointed out that 990 students from the B.Tech/ B.Tech (dual degree)/ M.Tech/M.B.A and M.Sc programmes had registered for placement this year and said that MS and PhD scholars were expected to register in October.
Last year, 970 students had registered for placement. “Pre-placement talks started on Aug.17 and are expected to go on till the last week of October.''
''Last year we introduced the biometric attendance system for placement activities to record student’s participation in the placement process and during pre-placement talks.''
The biometric system has been put in place to ensure that students attend pre-placement talks to be eligible to take part in further selection process,” he said.
