The nursing course in India is administered by Indian Nursing Council.
In India, Indian Nursing council was started to look after the Health of Army in India in the year 1857 by Madam Nightingale. A separate committee was formed towards this in the year 1859, which was expanded in the year 1868. In the year 1947, it was recognized as Indian Nursing council. Initially, exams for nursing council were conducted based on Matriculation marks. Later, Indian Nursing council was introduced in 19 states.
The role of a nurse is very vital. Therefore the nurses do not get rest while working in the hospitals. Several specialized divisions have been introduced in the field of nursing like clinical nurse specialists, advance practice nurse, independent nurse, certified nurse and mid wife, nurse educator, nurse administrator and nurse researcher.
The duty of the nurse is to support the doctors and the medical team in the medical management and surgical management process as well as gather all the information about the patient at the time of admission. They have to find out the immediate requirement of the patient and attend to it.
Courses:
Auxiliary nurse and mid -wife: Duration 1 year and 6 months. Should have passed 10th standard.
Diploma General Nursing and Mid-Wife: Duration 3 years and 6 months. Eligibility: Should have obtained 40% in Plus two after completing tenth.
BSc Nursing (General): Duration 4 years. Eligibility: Should have scored a minimum of 45% in plus two with subjects Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
BSc Nursing: Eligibility: Should have passed 10 +2 or diploma in mid-wife course. This course is about to be introduced in Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU). The duration for this course is 3 years, the eligibility is 10+2 and should have an experience of 2 years in the field of INM.
Job Opportunities: Several job opening are likely to be expected in the field of Nursing.
Many job opportunities are available in countries like Australia, New Zealand, Switzerland and Arab countries.
Salary details: The Indian Government has implemented the sixth pay commission according to which the starting salary of nurses are likely to be Rs29, 000/-. Private hospitals provide Rs 8000/- to Rs15, 000/. Arab countries provide Rs1.5 Lakhs to Rs 3 lakhs. Their working hours of Nurses are limited to 36 hours per week.
