Suhana Jena of Bhubaneswar emerged champion in the category below six year students in the 12th All India UC MAS Abacus & Mental Arithmetic Competition held at Chennai.
N.R. Siva Pathy, minister for school education, sports and youth welfare, Tamil Nadu presented the prize to the winners at Chennai Trade Centre, a release issued by Genius academy, where Suhana is a student said here.
Over 4,000 children from across the country including 99 students from 22 learning centres of Odisha had taken part in the two-day competition in seven categories during which they solved 150 to 250 questions with ease and accuracy within five to eight minutes in their respective groups. Suhana became the champion in 'z' category for below six years, considered as the 'Kumbha Mela' of Abacus competition, director of the academy Sanjukta Sarangi said.
Besides Suhana, seven others were declared runners-up while 27 students from the state also got consolation prizes in the competition.
