The strength of National Cadet Corps (NCC) will be raised from 14 lakhs to 15 lakhs by 2015, the chief of the voluntary force said.
NCC Director General P S Bhalla said here that NCC is planning to raise 60 more battalions, taking their total number to 788. This would mean that the number of cadets will increase to 15 lakh from 14 lakh now by 2015.
"NCC will also improve its training structure in the next three years," said Bhalla, who visited 3 Gujarat Battalion of NCC here. NCC in a voluntary organisation which recruits cadets from high schools, colleges and universities. It consists of Army, Navy and Air Force wings.
Talking to newspersons, Bhalla said NCC also plans to raise 12 more women battalions. "We plan to increase representation of female cadets to 33 per cent of the total strength and then take it to 50 per cent after creating necessary infrastructure."
NCC is also planning to set up "language labs" in its units to improve cadets' chances of getting into defence services, the Director General stated.
These labs will improve language skills of cadets, particularly English, so as to improve their confidence level and enable them join the armed forces, he added.
