BARC scientists to assist NIT-Silchar to produce electricity from kitchen waste

National Institute of Technology, Silchar would produce electricity from kitchen wastes with help from scientists of Bhaba Atomic Research Centre.

Director NIT, Silchar N V Deshpande said,"We will start work within a month with the assistance of BARC scientists and NIT would have a solar powered campus soon".

NIT has also adopted two neighbouring villagesMadhutilla and Babutillaas part of its social responsibility as ''we have to think about the poor and uneducated people residing near the institute. It is our responsibility to help them'', he added.

"We are providing technical teachings including funds to them. Around 250 school dropouts of two villages are pursuing the course and those who have completed are now engaged in different development works in NIT,” he said.

They are given training in different trades like plumbing, electrician, masonry and the institute was also imparting computer education to the villagers, he said.

He further pointed out around 150 students of the institute took classes in Mathematics, English, Computer and other subjects in the villages.

The NIT Silchar will open a few more professional courses including architecture, manufacturing and materials. A high tech machine for soil testing would also be soon installed in the institute, Deshpande added.
