Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said a specialised agency would be set up to facilitate training of eight crore people in the next five years, emphasising on job creation infusing requisite skills to the youths,
The Prime Minister said, "This is an ambitious scheme which can be implemented only through a specialised agency of the Centre. Therefore, we are considering establishment of a National Skill Development Authority so that a skill development programmes can be implemented in a coordinated manner."
In this regard, he invited the private sector and non-governmental organisations participation in providing skill to the youths.
Addressing the nation on occasion of the 66th Independence Day, he said the idea behind the move was to create new job opportunities for the youth in the coming years and give them skills which the economy requires.
The target to train eight crore people has been formulated by the National Skill Development Council. The Prime Minister said the government also wished to provide short duration training courses of 6 weeks to 6 months to the youths.
