Agriculture and Veterinary college to come up in Bihar

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said a agriculture and veterinary college would soon be set up at Pothia in Bihar's Kishanganj district.
    
Land at Pothia was fertile for flower, fruits, vegetables, horticulture and farming of spices and the agriculture research can qualitatively increase the income of farmers through the jute farming and nursery, he said.
    
An estimated Rs 718 crore was expected to be spent on establishment of the agriculture and veterinary college in next five years, he told a high-level meeting at his official residence here.
     
He laid thrust on courses on poultry, fisheries and dairy for developing the region. There was also need for promoting sericulture in the area, he said and stressed the need for promotion of agro-based industries.
     
Kumar reviewed the condition of buildings of various agriculture colleges in Bihar and directed the officials to ensure high standard of quality teaching.
    
State Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh, Chief Secretary Navin Kumar, Development Commissioner A K Sinha and Agriculture Production Commissiner Anjani Kumar Singh and Agriculture secretary Dr N Vijay Laxmi were also present.
 
The chief minister had during his visit to Pothia on June nine asked Sabaur agriculture officials to take necessary steps for opening the college.
