District Collector S Suresh Kumar expressed concern at the poor quality of education in government schools here and stressed the need to improve their quality.
Speaking at a meeting of education officers, he emphasised the need to augment enrolment in government schools and improve facilities like drinking water and toilets.
He pointed out that there are as many as 240 private unrecognised schools in Guntur district and referred to the exorbitant fees charged by them.
He directed officers to ensure that details of enrolment, fee tariff and qualifications of teachers in these schools are displayed prominently in premises.
The collector also exhorted officers to take action against managements of establishents which employ chidren and see to it that they are admitted to schools.
