J&K CM for introducing modern market-oriented subjects in higher educational curriculum

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said at a function at the Islamic University of Science and Technology in south Kashmir's Awantipora, that, "There is need to impart subjects of present and future relevance to students in the universities and colleges so that they are easily absorbed in the open job market."
 
Omar said the access to higher and technical education is focal point in his government's new education policy. "We have to develop a new generation capable and knowledgeable enough to fit in the changing scenario of scientific advancement," he said.
 
Reviewing the achievements and functioning of the university, Omar, who is also its Chancellor, favoured "cultivating educational temperament in educational institutions and making academic excellence and moral fineness benchmark in studies".

Omar said the required faculty and infrastructure are necessary part in the growth and development of higher education, saying his government is concentrating on this issue vigorously.

The Chief Minister said the growth of universities and creation of new offsite campuses along with setting up of degree colleges, polytechnics and ITIs in the state during last over three years indicates the "keenness of his government" to universalise higher and technical education.

Omar also laid the foundation of two buildings - Electronics and Communication block and Computer Science and Engineering block - being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 10.86 crore.
