S. Balasubramanian, who completed his Ph.D. programme from Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore, has been presented the Jawaharlal Nehru Award for his thesis by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi.
Mr. Subramanian’s thesis was on “Studies on Pearling and Development of Pasta from Selected Minor Millets”. He worked on the thesis while being a scholar of the Department of Food and Agricultural Process Engineering of the university.
Through the study, he developed a gadget for polishing of millet grains like finger millet, foxtail millet, little millet, etc., and also a technology for value-addition of millets at the industry level.
The award was presented to him by Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Farook Abdullah at a function in New Delhi. The award included a medal, citation and a purse of Rs. 20,000.
