Lecture-cum-training programme held

The School of Open and Distance Learning (ODL) of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University organised a lecture-cum-hands on training on the newly evolved 2-learning tool for the benefit of ODL learners and content writers. Sabine Grunwald, Distance Education Co-ordinator, University of Florida, the U.S. conducted the training programme. She explained the use of reusable learning objects and said the e-delivery mode would be useful for those who were geographically separated acro ss countries.

The Department of Commerce of Sri Krishna Arts and Science College organised a Conclave on Business Plan. Industrialist Mr. Rajaram was the resource person. He spoke to the students on developing entrepreneurial skills. The main topics that were discussed were starting up of an organization, nature of a company, entrepreneurial skills, ability to satisfy customers, mobilization of funds, leadership qualities and social responsibilities. Students made presentations on vario us topics.

Sankara Institute of Management Science organised an orientation programme for the first year MBA students. Ram S. Ramachandran, Quality Assurance Manager (Retd.), Hewlett Packard, was the chief guest. He emphasised the importance of human resource management in an organisation and said human capital was the most importance factor for an organisation’s success. He also spoke on attitude, communication and decision making as other factors that were necessary to succeed in the competitive scenario.

The Library and Information Centre of Kongunadu Arts and Science College organised a book exhibition in collaboration with Pai & Sons, Coimbatore. A.A. Sivakumar, Principal of the college, inaugurated the exhibition. More than 3,000 volumes of books on computer science, English literature, botany, zoology, bio-chemistry, mathematics, physics, biotechnology, general topics, competitive examinations, etc., were on display. Students and staff visited the exhibition.

The NSS units of PSG College of Technology conducted a camp at Ramakrishna Aashraman, Pallapalayam. More than 70 volunteers spent a day at the orphanage and were involved in various activities. They prepared the noon meal for the children, cleaned the orphanage campus, organised competitions for the children and distributed prizes and planted trees at the campus. A career guidance programme was also conducted for the inmates. Clothes, notebooks and stationery were distributed to the children.

Park Group of Institutions conducted an awareness programme on Basics and Advanced modules of Pro/Engineer for principals, HODs, senior lecturers and student co-ordinators.

This was in pursuance of the MoU signed between the college, Parametric Technology Corporation and PentaCAD to conduct the course for students of aeronautical, mechanical, automobile and marine engineering. The college will conduct the 120-hour course to train their students as well as students of other colleges in the Pro/engineer programme.

The Centre for Women’s Studies and Youth Red Cross of PSGR Krishnammal College for Women organised an awareness programme on “Social Integrity of Youth for the Holistic Development of the Society” and inaugurated the Young Women’s Forum. Balaji Saravanan, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Coimbatore South, was the chief guest. He urged the students to use their sixth sense and act as pillars for the social uplift with social responsibility.
