The university grants commission (UGC) has appointed an expert committee to look into various issues, including the functioning of minority colleges, said its member Rev. Xavier Alphonse. Talking to mediapersons on Tuesday, he said the federation of Chennai minority college teachers and managements had been insisting that the Madras university regulate the appointment of teachers in the minority colleges, but no decision was taken. Rev Peter, secretary, Loyola college and federation chairman, said that the services of 298 teachers and six principals appointed by various minority run institutions a few years ago were yet to be regulated. He said an undertaking to abide by the court verdict by all the management appointed teachers had been submitted to the university through the directorate of collegiate on May 19. Rev Peter said that the vice chancellor assured that if the direction was given by the UGC, he would immediately grant the qualification approval of the teachers.
Mr Alexander, principal, Madras Christian College, said that the managements of minority institutions were bearing the expenses of salaries, which was increasing the financial burden.
