CM and other elected representatives to visit govt. primary & Secondary schools

The government will monitor the implementation and impact of the 'Shalegagi Navu Neevu' programme till July 31.

Minister for primary and secondary education Vishveshvar Hegde Kageri on Saturday said chief minister DV Sadananda Gowda, his cabinet colleagues, MLAs, MPs, elected representatives of all rural and urban local bodies and officials of the education department would visit government primary and secondary schools in their respective regions and participate in various activities on July 5.

They will also hold discussions regarding the improvement of facilities in government schools and will chalk out plans to stop student drop-out ratio, Kageri said, adding that the programme would help in implementing the Right to Education Act (RTE) in the state effectively.

"We had introduced the programme in 2011 successfully. However, we could not follow it up properly. Hence, we have decided to monitor it from July 6 till July 31. The programme is aimed at ensuring the involvement of the community in the development of government schools," he said. The programme will give emphasis on the right of children to free and compulsory education. People should join hands with the government officials to ensure free and compulsory education to every deserving child. Participation of people is necessary for the development of government schools, he said.

On reservation of 25 per cent seats for economically weaker section in unaided private schools under the RTE Act, Kageri said there were several complaints regarding the implementation of the Act.

"We will sort out all initial hiccups. School managements too have complained about several issues related to the implementation of the act. Steps will be taken to set right all issues," he added.
