School enrollment and girl-child education drive

Gujarat government has launched a three-day school enrollment and girl-child education drive.    

Addressing teachers and parents via video conference upon the commencement of the drive, Chief Minister Narendra Modi said the schools were like temples, and it was the responsibility of the society to make sure that every child went to the school.
   
"The step being taken today in the form of these initiatives will result into a fully literate Gujarat fifteen years from now," he said.
   
State government officials will cover all the 32,772 government-run primary schools in 18,000-odd villages in the state during the drive.
   
Modi mentioned that the state government gives insurance cover to the children under Vidhyadeep scheme and also takes care of health check-ups and treatment of school children.
   
Several government officials had adopted anganwadis and that showed the commitment for spreading education, he said.
   
Modi visited remote forested areas of Sabarkantha district, covering schools and anganwadis (nurseries) at Mautanda in Bhiloda taluka and at Dantod village in Vijaynagar taluka.
