First aid responder training workshops in city schools

Ziqitza Health Care (ZHL), the firm that partners with the government in offering the 108 ambulance service, will conduct ‘First aid responder training workshops' in city schools this academic year.

The programme had been drawn up in connection with the second anniversary of the company's operations in the city.

The company's manager, operations, Harikumar told that meetings were on with the ‘cluster leaders' of the three zones in the city to formulate a detailed scheme.

“We have been conducting workshops in schools for the last two years. We have ties with various government and private schools,” he said.

The new course would include more in-depth and extensive training in first-aid that will go beyond tending to cuts and wounds and ‘basic life support.'

“It is essential to provide training and give a general idea of the procedures so that the person does not panic,” he said.

Training in stabilisation procedures, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and response to choking incidents will form part of the new training programme. “We plan to use mannequins, and videos to make the coaching effective,” Mr. Harikumar said.
