IIMC to offer certificate course in photojournalism

New Delhi: A month long full time Certificate Course in Photojournalism was inaugurated today at Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), New Delhi.

Stuti Kacker, Additional Secretary to the Government of India, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, formally inaugurated the course.

Prof Vijay Parmar of IIMC and Shri Devatosh Sengupta, Director, Photo Division will coordinate the course beginning from August 10 to September 9, 2009.

The course has 12 students participating from different states.

The central aim of the programme is to equip the participants with a thorough grounding in the methodologies of conventional and digital photojournalism.

The importance of the electronic and print media in today's world has created a huge demand for professional photographers.

In the visual intensive media "Photojournalism" is acquiring an important place.

The role of photojournalists has grown many folds in collecting authentic information, reporting and providing news across multiple media.

Considering overwhelming demand of photographic input in media and its growth as an independent genre, Indian Institute of Mass Communication and Photo Division have launched the certificate course.

The course will encourage participants to develop a wider vision of the practice and potential of the medium of documentary and reportage photography.
