The third convocation of the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research here on June 30 will be addressed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
He will also declare open the Women and Children's hospital, the teaching block and hostel premises of the institute on the day, JIPMER director Dr T S Ravikumar said in a press statement.
JIPMER was made autonomous in July 2007 and it earlier functioned under the direct administrative control of Directorate General of Health Services, Delhi, since its establishment in 1964.
The Prime Minister is also scheduled to inaugurate the Madanjeet Singh Institute of South Asian Regional Cooperation at Pondicherry University later in the day.
The institute has been established with funds available from the South Asian Foundation, established by UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Madanjeet Singh, university sources said.
