Punjab education minister Sikandar Singh Maluka has said that the government has chalked out a special programme to impart training to over 50,000 out-of-school children in the 6-14 age group to bring them back to mainstream.
The minister said that Over 50,000 children, who were never enrolled or dropped out of schools at various stages, have been identified under the scheme, and will be trained under the programme to be brought to mainstream in the regular schools.
Under the scheme, 20,720 children in the age group of 6 to 7 years were admitted directly in formal schools.
6,706 children in the age group of 7 to 8 years were covered through school readiness programme, while 7,119 out of school children of same age group were directly admitted in the schools.
The minister said 22,456 out of school children in age group of 8 to 14 years were covered under 1,894 non residential special training centres while 11,236 were admitted directly under this category.
