Suspicion hangs over B.Tech Admission

In the wake of suspicions that undeserving candidates have been enrolled in self-financing engineering colleges, Kerala University has decided to scan B.Tech admission details.

The first and second semester B.Tech (2008 scheme, 2011 admission) examinations of the Kerala University scheduled for May 11, 14 and 17 were postponed earlier for completing the verification process.

Colleges were asked to submit student verification reports to the assistant registrar of the (ECI) section of the university before May 14.

The University is verifying the report submitted by colleges to ascertain whether anyone, without the prescribed qualification, had gained admission.

The university has decided not to send hall tickets to colleges that have failed to submit the details.
However, the first and second semester examinations scheduled for May 21 and after will be held as per schedule.

It is alleged that many students who did not have the minimum mark for eligibility, were admitted to B. Tech course by various self-financing colleges.

As per the admission criteria for engineering courses, students should have a minimum of 50 per cent in mathematics separately and 50 per cent in mathematics, physics and chemistry/biotechnology/computer science/biology put together.
