The manufacturing sector is set to create around 3-4 million jobs during the 12th five year plan between 2012-17 as per government estimate.
V Narayanasamy, Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions told Lok Sabha in a written reply that "Approach paper to the 12th five year plan (2012-17) focuses on faster, sustainable and more inclusive growth for creating adequate livelihood opportunities. The approach paper estimates that the manufacturing sector will create around 3 to 4 million jobs over and above the pace of job creation in the recent past".
The labour Bureau, Ministry of Labour and Employment, which has been conducting quarterly quick employment survey on changes in employment in selected sectors has said in the report for the 13th quarterly survey conducted during October-December 2011, that additional new employment opportunities have been reported in different industries including Information Technology/Business Process Outsourcing sector in India", he said.
The report said that IT or BPO sector has shown an increase of 19.80 lakh in employment during October 2008 and December 2011.
