Parents unite against hike in CBSE fees

Following the CBSE directive to the Naval Children’s School (NCS) in Kochi, to cut down on the 100 per cent hike on civilian students’ fee, the parents of CBSE and ICSE students across Kerala are converging on one platform to see that only reasonable fees are charged in CBSE/ICSE schools across the state.

As a prelude to this, an All-Kerala Parent-Teacher Association (AKPTA) has been formed with Sudhir G. Kollara as president and a few schools’ PTA office-bearers as its members.

To chalk out the future course of action and co-ordinate activities and fan out to more areas, the AKPTA leaders and NCS Civilian Parents Association leaders and members, met at the Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium on Sunday evening.

According to Sudheer, the prevailing mood among parents across the state is that schools should not be allowed to hike fees in an unreasonable manner as per the whims and fancies of the ma- nagements. The schools should be asked to fix fees in proportion to the kind of infrastructure they provide.

“The CBSE by-law stipulates that the fee should be hiked only with the consent of the parents. But many parents are not even aware of this. We are going to sensitise them to get each PTA become a member of the AKPTA,” said Sudheer.

He said that the association will also work towards enforcing the provisions of the Right to Education Act in these schools.

Meanwhile, the NCS Civilian Parents Associat-ion decided to pay the new fee fixed by the CBSE. The meeting also decided to meet the new Commander-in-Chief of the Navy on the issue of denying passes to civilian parents who wish to enter the school. The association also decided to join the AKPTA.
