Amravati: The Centre's move to make education compulsory and free for children in age group six to 14 by inacting a law will especially help the deprived class, Union Minister for Heavy Industries Vilasrao Deshmukh said today.
He was speaking at the silver jubilee ceremony of People's Welfare Education Society at Chandur Bajar in the district.
Deshmukh further said all should welcome this law of making education compulsory.
This will help increase the percentage of literacy in the state, which is currently only 77 per cent, he said, adding an amount of Rs 800 crore has been allocated for this scheme in the budget.
Children should get education and become self- dependent is the motto behind this law, said Deshmukh.
