Tiruvarur: The official inaugural function of Central University at Tiruvarur would take place on September 19, according to its Vice-chancellor B.P. Sanjay.
Receiving the allotment letter for a temporary building for the university to function from M. Chandrasekaran, district collector, Sanjay told presspersons that the State Government has provided the building on rent-free basis and thanked the Government for the help extended to the Central University.
The Vice-Chancellor said that this academic year four programmes would be offered at University. The programmes were post-graduate (M.A.) in Regional Studies, Tamil and English and Post Graduate Diploma in Eco Criticism.
Admission notices have been issued for the course and the last date for receiving applications was August 31.
Hostel accommodation for girls has been made in the temporary building itself. Thirty students each would be admitted to the four programmes.
From the next year, the university has planned to offer integrated courses in Physical Sciences, Chemistry, Mathematics and Computing.
