Teacher MLC Chukka Ramaiah said that the Central and State governments should bear the basic responsibility of providing quality education to children from disadvantaged sections.
Welcoming the Supreme Court's judgment upholding the constitutional validity of Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009 making it mandatory for all schools to reserve 25 per cent of seats to students from underprivileged sections, Mr. Ramaiah said that the judgment has not wiped out the government's basic responsibility of providing free education to children.
“What about the remaining 75 per cent? The government cannot wash its hands off. It has to meet their aspirations too and provide quality education, he told reporters at Kennedy School here on Sunday. The noted academician also said that private school managements should be taken on board while formulating the modalities for implementing the RTE Act.
