Maharashra to close down aided schools which inflated rolls

The Maharashtra government decided to crack the whip against some aided schools which were found to have inflated the number of enrolled students to get government grants in a recent state-wide inspection.
   
The state cabinet decided to initiate criminal proceedings against school managements where fifty percent or more enrolment was found to be bogus.
   
A drive to verify actual enrolment in aided schools was undertaken recently when it came to light that several schools in Nanded district had inflated the number of students to get more grants.
   
Such schools would be shut down, highly placed sources said. "The teachers' services would be terminated and the students will be accommodated elsewhere."
   
The officials who had conducted previous surveys and given false reports would face departmental inquiry.
   
Sources said that Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan also asked the officials to submit a plan to install biometric system in schools.
   
The cabinet also decided that state government will provide nine per cent of the central government funds or Rs 9 crore (whichever is less) for 14 textile parks that would come up in the state.
