A seminar on Introduction to Delta-Sigma Converter and Reliability Issue on Power Electronics System was held at the Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata on April 4.
Professor Kalyan Kumar Roy, Jadavpur University, addressed the students, speaking about the Delta-Sigma Converters which is one of the most happening topics in the current scenario at tech institutes. Delta-Sigma converters are quite different from other converters. It not only gives a clear resolution but also consumes less time.
In his presentation, Prof Ray gave a comparative study of other converters and how Delta-Sigma Converters operate to make conversion of analog waves to digital waves very efficient and easy.
In his presentation Prof Ray explained the working of the bit stream and low pass filters which a Delta-Sigma Modulator produces during the process of Delta-Sigma conversion. He also gave the example of over sampling rate in the context of Delta-Sigma modulation.
The second lecture in the seminar was delivered by Dr D K Bhattacharya, principal Power Electronics, architect in International Rectifier, USA who is also attached to the Boston University. Dr Bhattacharya spoke about the importance of Power Electronics as an efficient control and conversion of electric power which becomes crucial matter for future grid environment.
Moreover the introduction of electric vehicles had stimulated the development of high-performance power electronic systems. In the field of power conservation, power electronic devices form an integral part but the question of their reliability forms a key issue. Dr Bhattacharya suggested measures where power electronic devices can withstand high voltage power and can optimise the use of power to conserve energy significantly.
Prof B B Paira, director of Heritage Institute of Technology said, “These topics are of high significance when it comes to power management and providing the right exposure to the students through such expert lecture makes us different from other private institutes in the state.”
P K Agarwal, CEO, Heritage, said, “Power Management is one of the happening topics in the current scenario and such innovative seminars not only teaches the students to move further in research and development but also creates the importance of energy conservation in the minds of the students,” said
