BJP MP requests Sibal to push IIT Bill

BJP MP Balkrishna Shukla has appealed to the HRD Minister Kapil Sibal to get the long pending Institute of Technology Bill passed in Rajya Sabha as the fate of the students at two IITs is hanging in balance.
 
Shukla urged Sibal to get the bill passed in Rajya Sabha when it resumes on April 24 for second part of Budget session.
 
The MP said."The legislative delay has held up degrees of students of IIT in Gandhinagar in Gujarat and IIT in Indore in Madhya Pradesh."
 
The students of 2011 batches at the two IITs awaiting legal sanctity have been waiting for their degrees for over a year due to legislative delay, he said.
 
"As the bill is getting delayed in the Rajya Sabha, it is creating serious problems for careers of students," the MP said.
 
The bill seeks to amend the Institutes of Technology Act, 1961, which declares certain institutes of technology to be institutions of national importance and add eight new IITs in Bhubaneswar, Gandhinagar, Hyderabad, Indore, Jodhpur, Mandi, Patna and Ropar.
 
He has also sought the minister's intervention in staying implementation of the mandatory general order of AICTE prescribing mandatory online journals for private colleges.
