Maharashtra Minister for Higher and Technical Education Rajesh Tope met Governor K Sankaranarayanan to discuss issues related to university education in the state, including those related to the University of Mumbai.
Soon after the meeting, a Raj Bhavan spokesperson announced that the Government has appointed Kumar Bhagwan Khaire, Additional Collector, Pune, as the Registrar of the University of Mumbai. He will take charge of his office on April 3.
The development comes after the University rescheduled the marketing and human resources management (MHRM) paper for April 11, following allegations that it was leaked.
Reacting to Khaire's appointment, Yuva Sena leader Aditya Thackeray, who is leading a campaign against vice-chancellor Dr Rajan Welukar, said the action was welcome. He sought the dismissal of Welukar, alleging that he was not competent to head the University.
