Changes in question paper pattern by Madras University

Madras University has decided to change the question paper pattern for undergraduate and postgraduate students by increasing objective-type questions thereby enabling them to use their analytical skills.

University vice-chancellor Prof G. Thiruvasagam in his speech at the university’s senate meeting on Friday said that the university had initiated process to keep up with the changing demands on educational practices. Chairpersons of the boards of studies have been asked to recommend new patterns of question papers for both UG and PG examinations.

“We will include four student representatives, two from the alumni and two final year students in the board of studies to make it learner centric,” he said.

Prof. Thiruvasagam also pointed out that the University Grants Commission had accorded a total grant of Rs 3.25 crore to the university for starting a centre for development of drugs from medicinal plants for human welfare. Similarly UGC has sanctioned Rs 2.3 crore for centre on climate change and its impact on mangrove system.

Noting that the university departments had generated Rs 5.35 crore through reserach projects, the vice-chancellor urged faculty to do more research and help the university march towards the next level.
