Karnataka Government but while ruling out a CBI probe said it would "get to the root" of the leak of Mathematics and Physics question papers of the second year Pre-University Exam recently.
Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Vishweshwara Hegde Kageri told the state assembly, the government has already ordered CID probe into the leakage of question paper, which forced rescheduling of the exam timetable. He said, "It is beyond the imagination of the government how the leakage occured and also its source. So far about four persons have been arrested. We will get to the root (of the leak) and punish the culprits."
Notices threatening cancellation of their recognition has been slapped on six Pre-University colleges in Chikkaballapur and Kolar, he said.
Opposition Congress leader Siddaramaiah, JDS leader H D Revanna and others demanded a CBI probe into the issue.
Dissatisifed with the government reply, Congress members staged a walkout.
