University of Wolverhampton campus in Mauritius

The UK-based University of Wolverhampton, launched its branch campus in the picturesque capital city of Mauritius. The       Chancellor of this University is NRI industrialist Lord Swraj Paul.
   
The university will be offering law degrees and an MA in education.
   
Lord Paul said addressing the gathering here via a video link, said "The Wolverhampton initiative in Mauritius responds to one of the most significant trends in the area of higher education the internationalisation of learning and the value of transferring and sharing knowledge."
   
The university, which has 23,000 students in West Midlands, UK, has 150 graduates from Mauritius, majority of whom have studied law.
   
The university also launched a new Mauritius Alumni Association, with Wolverhampton graduate Yatindra Nath Varma, Attorney General of Mauritius, as its Honorary President.
  
Lord Paul, who has been the University Chancellor since 1999, noted, "We live in a world where human concerns and advancement are no longer constrained by national boundaries."

Welcoming the formation of the university's alumni association chapter here, he underlined, "Modern education does not stop at the university gate, it is, in many ways, a lifelong undertaking."
   
a conference was organised on the occasion of the launch of the university campus, with a focus on globalisation of higher education and Mauritius promoting itself as a regional hub.
   
The speakers included Mauritius Foreign Minister Arvin Boolell.
