New Delhi: The implementation of "Earn while you Learn" scheme was approved by the Delhi Cabinet on Monday for maintenance of government buildings by Industrial Training Institutes (ITI) students.
While addressing the media after the cabinet meeting, Chief Minister, Sheila Dikshit said, "ITI students' involvement would ensure effective and timely maintenance of the buildings."
The scheme will be jointly run by Delhi Knowledge Development Foundation and Delhi Skills Mission.
The scheme was conceived by the department of training and technical education and will provide an opportunity to ITI students to earn while they learn various skills.
This will also ensure quick maintenance of buildings, as on several occasions it takes much time to contact PWD and get maintenance work done, senior officials explained.
The main objective of the scheme is to ensure cost effectiveness and timely maintenance of selected government buildings with a focus on quality said Dikshit.
The students that will be involved in this scheme are from ITI Dheerpur, ITI Arab Ki Sarai, ITI Mayur Vihar, ITI Jail Road and ITI Pusa whereas other ITIs will function as subsidiaries.
The project is being executed on pilot basis, which will provide an opportunity to students to undertake civil works such as carpentry, plumbing, painting, welding, steel fabrication and electrical works.
