The Education Minister of Mizoram Government informed the teachers, who took out a procession here demanding that their salaries be paid on time, that they would paid in the next financial year.
The teachers marched in a procession from Vanapa Hall to the state secretariat and handed over a memorandum to the education secretary.
The teachers demanded that their salaries should be paid on time and that the government should make sufficient allocation for their salaries in future.
In the Assembly, Education Minister Lalsawta said the salaries of teachers for January to March, 2012 under plan fund would be paid during the next financial year (2012-13). The minister admitted while replying to a question from the opposition Mizo National Front (MNF) member C. Ramhluna,that the plan fund allocated to the education department was not sufficient to meet the requirement for salaries of teachers. He said that while the fund required for teacher salaries for the current financial year was Rs 173.58 crore only Rs 113.20 was provided in the plan.
