The chief Minister of Bihar Mr. Nitish Kumar has asked the Prime Minister to look into the controversy over the proposed Central University in Bihar. Mr. Kumar said that the Centre was ignoring the sentiments of the state's people who wanted the central university at Motihari, the 'Karmbhumi' of Mahatma Gandhi.
According to him the centre first agreed to set up the University at Motihari but later changed its stand and seems adamant on alternative avenue. The Chief Minister rejected Union HRD Minister Kapil Sibal's proposal for land in Gaya to set up the university there.
Mr. Kumar further said that his government was capable enough to set up the state university there on its own referring to Sibal's proposal that the state government should set up a state university at Motihari for which the Centre would provide assistance.
He also further said that there was no norm that a university should come up near the airport, but it could be developed later. Motihari has excellent road and rail connectivity to be a viable place for the university and the additional infrastructure would come up only after setting up the varsity, the Chief Minister said. Mr sibal has reportedly objected on the ground that Motihari did not have air connectivity which Gaya has.
