The Institute of Apparel Management (IAM), Gurgaon, has launched a six-month course to address aspects of setting up a fashion business and help young aspirants launch new labels and re-invent themselves.
"The apparel and fashion business is the second largest employment-provider after agriculture. The total size of the industry stands at around US$60 billion, and if the industry needs to further grow, the young generation needs to build newer enterprises/organisation in fashion," says Darlie Koshy, director general and CEO, IAM and The Apparel Training and Design Centre (ATDC).
The course will cover key aspects of entrepreneurship, fashion business, planning management and change management along with design, merchandising etc. The course content comprise online preparatory modules, intensive study material, simulation techniques, hands-on learning support, etc. The programme addresses a range of issues, which include design, merchandising, production, branding and retailing, etc.
Initially there will be selective intake of about 10-15 students. Koshy adds, "Students who join the programme will have an edge over others in terms of linking 'creativity' with 'business realities' to create a complete eco-system and can function from 'product development' to delivering the finished products, etc, towards the end of an apparel value chain."
