National Council of Education Research and Training said it has already commenced dispatching textbooks to its distributors, With the new academic session soon to begin, to ensure that there is no scarcity of books in the market.
The Council said that it has started dispatching the books to its wholesale distributors across the country in a phased manner in the light of the fact that the council was confronted with shortage of school books since the last two years.
In a statement NCERT said that all the textbooks, are also available online in three languages — English, Hindi and Urdu, and can be downloaded free of cost from www.ncert.nic.in for non-commercial use. Arounf three and a half crore textbooks are estimated to be required this year.
The statement further said that if for some unavoidable reasons books are not available in certain places Schools will be allowed to make bulk purchase from its sales counters. The sales counters at the headquarters of NCERT in Delhi and its Regional Production-cum-Distribution Centres in Kolkata, Ahmedabad and Bangalore are open from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM on all five working days of a week, it said.
NCERT books are followed by several state boards apart from CBSE.
