Enourage rural Students for Higher Education

Prof. Cynthia Pandian Vice Chairperson of Tamilnadu State Council of Higher Education said that improving access to higher education, especially in rural areas, will be their prime priority. Speaking to press persons she said that most uneducated parents do not understand the value of education and there is a lack of motivation amongst the first generation learners to pursue higher education.

She said that it is the role and responsibility of every school teacher to  guide students in choosing the right career and encourage them to go to college, while stressing on the need for more colleges, post graduation centres and state universities.

She also emphasized on the need to develop the skills of students from arts and science stream as very few students from this segment get jobs relevant to their qualification. She said that while engineering graduates are able to settle down in a job relevant to their education about 30 to 40 per cent of arts and science graduates remain unemployed.
