Dr. R.Chidambaram the Principal Scientific Advisor to the Union Government said that companies who recruit students from IITs should allow them to do research in Universities and they should pay the salaries as it is beneficial for both the country as well as the company.
“A couple of years ago we (the Union government) wrote to all top companies about this but nothing has happened till date,” he said while addressing students at SRM University during the Research Day celebrations.
Dr. Chidambaram pointed out that funding for research was not a problem in the country and that the industry and institutions should look at enhancing the level of their interaction as the industry is good in delivery and institutions are known for research. they could work together for the betterment of research in the country.
The Department of Science and Technology has initiated INSPIRE, a programme to attract young talent for research in the country,” said the Principal Scientific Advisor.
Dr Chidambaram also informed that the Centre had launched a new scheme for gifted children.
“To develop more science prodigies we have launched the special gifted education scheme. National Institute of Advanced Studies, Bengaluru will conduct this programme,” he added.
Dr Chidambaram noted that several faculties who joined universities abroad had returned to India due to recession.
