A national Conclave on "Human Resource Management in Pharmaceutical Industry - Challenges and Future Directions" was
organised by The Indian Institute of Health Management Research (IIHMR) to stress on the need for right selection of peopleto lead the innovation driven Pharma Industry.
Mr. S D Gupta, Director, IIHMR talking to the media said that the Institute was striving to resolve the issue of paucity of talent by introducing courses such as Hospital and Pharmaceutical Management which will help in producing well qualified students capable of making a real difference in the field of Pharma thereby preparing them for the corporate roles.
The Indian Pharmaceutical industry is expected to be the 3rd largest in the world with an output of 20 billion US Dollars by the year 2015. He said that R & D is the core of pharmaceutical companies and requires highly skilled employees to deliver the goods.
Talking on his vision of 2020 Dr. Gupta stated that only 35 percent of the indian population would be able to avail of the benifits of healthcare.
He further stated that their goal for 2020 is making good quality medicines available to the Indian public at low cost. This according to him is possible only when there is highly talented manpower capable of drug R & D and this requires providing quality education Which is the first step and also the goal of IIHMR.
