The Union Information and Broadcasting Ministry has sent a batch of 11 officers comprising Officers from the Indian Information service as well as some from I and B ministry to Thomson Foundation in England, UK for training in Social Media and using this communication tool as part of the government's media policy. According to a senior official the course at Thomson Foundation is part of governments overall policy to impart skills to its officials and has the sanction of the Expenditure Finance Commission for the year 2007.
According to the official nearly 60 officers have undergone training in Thomson Foundation and last year two batches of officers were sent for training. While preference is given to Indian Information Service officials from I and B are also sent.
